Happy hump day everyone!
Today I wanted to write about something I am currently doing. The #Whole30 diet has been spreading like wildfire lately and if you don’t know what it is you’re probably living under a rock. Just kidding! If you don’t know it’s totally okay.
I could go on for a very long time explaining the ins and outs of what is and isn’t allowed. In a nut shell, any processed foods are a big no no! For 30 days you are not allowed to eat any added sugars, dairy, sodas, grains, legumes, msg or sulfites. Which seems like a piece of cake, until you realize that the American diet literally is all of that. Grocery stores in America are set up in a way where only about 25% percent of the store includes fresh, non processed foods. By the way I’m totally making up that number so please don’t quote me. I promise you I tried to look up the actual number but couldn’t find anything so I just pictured a grocery store in my head and that’s what made sense.
Anyways, it is in every way a lot harder than it seems. Restructuring the meals you like to fit the Whole 30 guidelines is quite difficult. Luckily the internet is thriving right now. Social media is your best friend during your Whole 30 journey! Follow the hashtag and see what other people come up with. If you’re anything like me, I get so bored after eating the same thing over and over again! Pinterest is also a phenomenal tool!
Many of you might be asking why? As you may or may not know, Tanvir and I are major foodies! We LOVE trying new restaurants all the time. Although it’s one of our favorite hobbies, that by no means makes it a healthy one. Our goal in doing Whole 30 was to relieve our bodies of the addictive qualities that you find in more heavily processed foods. Hopefully it’ll help us think of food as nourishment for our bodies rather than just something that tastes good. After-all, your body is a temple right?
So far I feel great! We have been doing this for only 3 days and I have lost 5 pounds. I feel so much more energetic and my confidence is coming back. I feel truly beautiful for the first time in a while. Now I’m not going to lie and say it’s easy. It is probably one of the harder things I’ve been tasked with doing. I find myself craving those foods that I love and it is so hard to not give in, but momma didn’t raise no quitter.
I will keep my social media accounts updated with my progress and will do another blog post about the results and my overall thoughts after the 30 days! If you’re thinking of doing it, you totally should. Reach out to me if you need any support! Whether that’s with some fun recipes or as a cheerleader, I’m only a message away.
I have attached some pictures of some of the meals I've made. They were SUPER delicious!
Good luck and have fun with your journey!
Keep Shinning!
