So here I am sitting in my apartment in the heart of Houston, TX. I have been wanting to start a blog for a while now, but I never thought my life was interesting enough. I am a marketing student at the University of Houston and currently I'm taking a social media marketing class. Just my luck, one of our assignments is to create some type of long-form content. I'm serious, JUST MY LUCK! I have been procrastinating this for so long, but now that I'm forced to do it for a grade, I'm finally starting!
This is where I'm going to start talking about who I am so hang in tight. My name is Cassandra Gonzalez and I am from a small town in South Texas called Edinburg. Never heard of it? Told you it's small. When I was about 8 years old my life flipped and my mom moved our family to Houston. So that's how I ended up here. I'm small town girl at heart but grew up in one of the largest urbanized areas in the country! Hence, the name of my blog. *Audience claps because I'm so clever.* Anyway, I am the oldest of 3, sitting at a whopping 21 years of age. That might be the only time I age myself so make sure to keep up. My brother, Hector, is 18 years old and my sister, Chloe, is 13. We'll talk more about them in the future. My mom is my role model. She raised the 3 of us mostly on her own, but even when times got tough she made sure we always had what we needed. My dad was and still is an amazing father. My parents divorced when I was young and as all young children do, I wanted nothing more than for them to find their way to each other again. However, with age I realized they were much better apart than together. He loved us from afar (still lives in my hometown), but man did he love us.
For the most part, I would say that I had a pretty normal childhood. Came to Houston when I was in 2nd grade so making friends wasn't too hard. However, we moved before I went to middle school so that was rough. THANKS MOM. We lived in Alief and moved to Cypress and if you are at all familiar with the Houston area, you know that's one hell of a difference. Needless to say middle school was the awkwardest part of my life. I totally did not fit, but that's definitely a story for another day. Eventually I found my grove and went through what normal kids do in high school. First loves, first job, new friends, losing friends which, DISCLAIMER, if you've never lost a best friend before it hurts more than losing your first love let me tell you! Again, we'll expand on a later date.
In middle school I met this guy, Tanvir, he was my best friend and TOTALLY friend zoned. We were both super awkward. Junior year of high school, he managed to wiggle his way out and we started dating. Now, 4 + years later we are in our senior year of college and still going strong. We actually just got matching tattoos so I'd say it's going pretty well. We have a dog named Kopa who is a German Shepherd/Husky mix and we are probably the definition of corny ass dog parents. (Can I cuss on the internet?) I'm assuming it's fine...
So, I'm a marketing student, I'm also in the Program for Excellence in Selling at the University of Houston. It is the nation's leading sales program and it's awesome! If you ever want to study sales, this is the place to be! Along with going to school full time, I also work full time at a little company you might've heard of called Tesla. It's pretty awesome, but also extremely exhausting. My boyfriend is a marketing student and also in an amazing entrepreneurship program at UH called the Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship. He loves it and has found his passion. We definitely have a lot on our plates though and I think the most challenging thing we have been tasked with so far is finding balance between work, school, family, love and finding ourselves.
I can go on for hours, but that's why I've created this blog. So quick summary, I am a daughter, I am a sister, a student, a dreamer, a hard worker, a mother (dog mother), a lover, a fighter, a sun to the moon and everything in between. I am me. Over time you will learn to know me, and my opinions. Some of you may hate me, some of you may not agree with what I say, but some of you may find solace in knowing there's someone out there just like you, and that is why I'm doing this.
If you like my story and want to learn more, please make sure to follow my blog. Give me feedback and let me know what you want to learn more about. I'm just starting, but my goal is to post once a week, most likely on Wednesdays so keep me accountable!
-Keep Shining!
